Music

Students at Immanuel Lutheran School, in grades PreK-8, attend music class once a

week, where they learn the most basic elements of music theory (i.e., rhythm and

notation, music symbols and terms), various genres of music throughout various periods

of world history, how music helps us express ourselves, and how music helps us learn

about ourselves, our friends, and the world around us.

They learn to express themselves musically by learning how to read music and create

their own; learning how to make music with their voices, learning how to play music on

handbells and percussion instruments (such as boomwhackers, rhythm sticks, etc.), and

learning how to incorporate movement into music.

Students will also have opportunities to present what they have learned in Sunday

morning worship services at the beginning of the school year and during National

Lutheran Schools Week in late January. There is also a midweek service during Advent

in December and an evening of the arts towards the end of the school year.

Once students reach the first grade, private instruction in piano is offered. When you

reach fourth grade, students can take up a wind instrument such as flute, clarinet, or

saxophone. Upon reaching sixth grade, students can begin taking voice lessons.

Students will be able to showcase their talents at various worship services at Immanuel

Lutheran Church and at our evening of the arts towards the end of the school year.
